School History and Disciplinary Layout  

The School of Civil Engineering and Architecture originates from the Civil Engineering Department of Hubei Polytechnic School founded by Zhang Zhidong in 1898, with a history of more than 120 years of education. Located in the Mahanshan Campus of Wuhan University of Technology, the school currently offers 6 undergraduate programs: Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering, Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering, Architecture, and Urban and Rural Planning. Among them:   - Four majors (Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering, and Architecture) are listed as National First-Class Undergraduate Disciplines.   - Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering is a Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Discipline.   Civil Engineering has also been approved as a National Characteristic Discipline, a Pilot Program of the Ministry of Education's Excellence Engineer Education and Training Program, a Hubei Provincial Brand Discipline, and a Hubei Provincial Comprehensive Reform Pilot Program. Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering has been approved as a National Characteristic Discipline, a Hubei Provincial Strategic Emerging (Pillar) Industry Discipline, and a Hubei Provincial Comprehensive Reform Pilot Program. Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering has been approved as a Hubei Provincial Strategic Emerging (Pillar) Industry Discipline and a "Jingchu Excellence Talent" Collaborative Education Program of Hubei Provincial Ordinary Undergraduate Universities. Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering, and Architecture have all passed the evaluation (certification) of the Higher Education Professional Evaluation Committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development for many times.  

Faculty and Student Profile  

The school has 202 faculty members, including 38 full professors and 78 associate professors, as well as a number of renowned domestic and foreign experts and scholars serving as visiting professors. It currently has 2,127 undergraduate students (including 38 international students) and 1,189 doctoral and master's students (including 41 international students). Focusing on the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education and adhering to the school spirit of "Dedication, Civilization, Self-Improvement, and Climbing", the school has cultivated nearly 30,000 senior professionals in civil engineering and architecture, including outstanding alumni in academia and industry such as Academician Ou Jinping and Academician Ding Lieyun of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chen Huayuan, former Chairman of China Construction Third Engineering Bureau, and Fang Shengli, former Chairman of China Construction Seventh Engineering Bureau.   #### Disciplinary Construction and Academic Authorization   - In 1981, the school was approved as one of the first master's degree authorization points in Structural Engineering in the country, and in 1986, it was approved as a doctoral degree authorization point in Structural Engineering.   - It currently has a first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization in Civil Engineering, including 8 second-level discipline doctoral programs: Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Municipal Engineering, Heating, Gas Supply, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Engineering, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Engineering and Protection Engineering, Bridge and Tunnel Engineering, Civil Engineering Construction and Management, and Historical City and Building Restoration Engineering.   - It has 3 first-level discipline master's degree authorizations in Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Urban and Rural Planning, including 11 second-level discipline master's programs: Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Municipal Engineering, Heating, Gas Supply, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Engineering, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Engineering and Protection Engineering, Bridge and Tunnel Engineering, Civil Engineering Construction and Management, Architectural History and Theory, Architectural Design and Theory, Urban Planning and Design, and Building Technology Science.   - It has 2 professional master's degree authorizations in Civil Engineering and Water Conservancy, and Architecture. Civil Engineering is a key first-level discipline in Hubei Province, with a post-doctoral research station.  

Scientific Research Platforms  

The school has established the Hubei Key Laboratory of Road, Bridge and Structural Engineering and the Hubei Green Intelligent Building Engineering Technology Research Center. It is a co-construction unit of the State Key Laboratory of Silicate Building Materials. It has 1 national engineering practice education center, 1 provincial key experimental teaching demonstration center for universities in Hubei Province, and 1 provincial demonstration internship and training base for universities in Hubei Province. It has built talent training bases with China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., China Construction Seventh Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., China Railway Construction Group Co., Ltd., etc., providing strong support for the cultivation of high-quality and excellent talents.  

Academic Exchanges at Home and Abroad  

The school attaches importance to domestic and international academic exchanges, and has established close academic exchange and cooperation relationships with more than ten universities and research institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Australia, and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions. It regularly sends teachers and students to study abroad or carry out scientific research cooperation, and often invites experts and scholars from home and abroad and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions to give lectures.  

Scientific Research Achievements  

The school has formed a series of characteristic disciplinary directions and a multi-level and multi-faceted scientific research layout, and has made a number of domestic and international advanced achievements. In the past five years:   - 878 scientific research projects have been approved, with a cumulative research funding of more than 270 million yuan.   - Faculty members have undertaken 70 national projects.   - It has won 24 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological awards and authorized 396 patents.
