【College News】The School Held a Demonstration Meeting on the Self-established Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program of "Low-Altitude Technology and Engineering"

On the morning of June 22, the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Wuhan University of Technology held a demonstration meeting on the self-established interdisciplinary doctoral program of "Low-Altitude Technology and Engineering" in the West Campus Conference Center. The meeting invited seven experts from universities, governments and industries to form an expert group for demonstration, covering geological information, engineering survey, transportation, intelligent detection, airspace services and other fields. Wang Fazhou, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Wuhan University of Technology, heads of relevant units such as the Graduate School, Library, Design Institute, School of Transportation and Logistics Engineering, School of Information Engineering and School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, discipline leaders and teacher representatives attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Liang Chuanjie, Dean of the Graduate School.
In his speech, Vice President Wang Fazhou emphasized that the development of the low-altitude economy is a key measure to implement the national strategic emerging industry layout, which puts forward new requirements for the cultivation of compound high-end talents. Based on the frontier of disciplines, the university takes the establishment of interdisciplinary doctoral programs as a starting point to actively serve the national strategic needs, and looks forward to the experts present to provide professional guidance for discipline construction.
Professor Xu Dongsheng, Vice Dean of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, gave a special report, systematically introducing the background, necessity, feasibility, talent training program and preliminary preparation work of the low-altitude economy discipline construction. He expounded that relying on the "Interdisciplinary Research Center for Low-Altitude Science and Technology", the college has built a multi-disciplinary integrated research team of "Civil Engineering-Transportation-Information" and formed a distinctive interdisciplinary research system.
After centralized deliberation and in-depth discussion, the expert group carried out demonstration focusing on key links such as talent selection mechanism, training mode innovation and faculty team construction based on professional fields and practical experience. After full evaluation, the expert group unanimously agreed that Wuhan University of Technology has a solid foundation for discipline construction, and the application materials are well-argued and systematic, meeting the requirements for doctoral program construction, and it is recommended to accelerate the construction process. The experts present further put forward constructive opinions on refining discipline directions, optimizing curriculum system, building practice platforms and other aspects, providing professional guidance for improving the discipline construction plan.
Wu Bin, Dean of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, said in his concluding speech that the college will fully absorb the experts' suggestions, continuously improve the interdisciplinary talent training program, and strive to build this doctoral program into an innovation highland and a talent cradle serving the national low-altitude economy strategy.
This demonstration meeting marks a breakthrough in the university's promotion of interdisciplinary integration and service to major national needs, and actively builds a new pattern of interdisciplinary development with the university's characteristics.
