The department of Engineering Management was established in 1999, together with the first enrollment of the undergraduate majoring Engineering Management in the university. However, education and fostering of students in this area started years ago. In 1980s, the major of Construction Economics & Management was already a choice for graduate students in Civil Engineering in Wuhan University of Technology. For undergraduates of grades 1987 and 1988, a class focusing on construction management was set up with qualified students selected.

Engineering Management is an interdisciplinary major, integrating traditional Civil Engineering and Management Science & Engineering, which focuses on dealing with managerial issues in civil engineering practices. Graduates from this major have a wide career opportunity covering real estate development, engineering consulting and engineering contracting. Government agencies and financing institutions are also places where graduates from this major can realize their ambitions.

The year 2022 saw the advent of Intelligent Construction Micro Major, aiming at meeting the challenges of informatization innovation in construction industry. In addition to knowledge and skills of Engineering Management, the undergraduates will receive trainings on Computer Science, Intelligent Manufacturing and Automatic Control.
