WUT School of Civil Engineering and Architecture's Innovative Technology Wins Special Gold Medal at Geneva International Invention Exhibition

On April 13, 2025, at the award ceremony of the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, Switzerland, the project "Intelligent Sensing and Prevention Technology for Engineering Geological Disasters with Multi-Source Fusion" developed by the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Wuhan University of Technology, won the Special Gold Medal with Distinction.

Aiming at the main battlefield of the national economy, the project focuses on intelligent sensing and prevention of engineering geological disasters. It has developed a sensing technology based on sound, light, and electricity fusion, realized cross-range stress monitoring inside engineering geological bodies, established a multi-source data fusion stability analysis method, and achieved engineering geological stability evaluation through multi-source data integration. The technology has been demonstratively applied in major projects such as lakeside deep-buried tunnels, high-steep slopes, and super-large deep foundation pits, successfully realizing early identification and precise early warning of geological disaster hazards. The technological breakthroughs are mainly reflected in three aspects:   1. Development of composite sensing technology capable of simultaneously capturing soil pressure and vibration;   2. Construction of a multi-source data fusion algorithm based on Bayesian theory to achieve high-precision inversion of geological parameters;   3. Establishment of an engineering geological stability evaluation system including key indicators to enhance evaluation timeliness.

Relevant achievements of the project have obtained more than 20 authorized invention patents and published a series of papers in international authoritative journals such as *Journal of Geophysical Research-Solid Earth*, *Sensors and Actuators A-Physical*, and *Engineering Geology*.

It is reported that the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions was founded in the 1970s and co-sponsored by the Swiss Federal Government and the World Intellectual Property Organization. It is one of the longest-running and largest invention exhibitions in the world. During this year's exhibition, there were more than 1,000 invention projects from nearly 40 countries and regions. Awards include Special Gold Medal with Distinction, Gold Medal, Silver Medal, and Bronze Medal. The "Special Gold Medal with Distinction" is selected from the Gold Medals and must be unanimously approved by the jury.
