Academician P.G. Ranjith from Monash University Visits Our University to Exchange on Sustainable Mining Technologies
On the morning of March 31, Professor P.G. Ranjith, Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor from Monash University, was invited to visit our university. He delivered a special academic report titled "Breaking New Ground: Eco-Friendly Innovations for Sustainable Critical Mineral Extraction" in Conference Room 116 of the East Teaching Building, School of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Dean Wu Bin delivered the opening speech for this academic event, Associate Professor Wang Jinyuan served as the academic host, and more than 50 faculty members and students participated.
Professor P.G. Ranjith launched an in-depth sharing on new methods of mineral resource extraction. Starting from the entry point of "why new methods for mineral extraction are needed", he analyzed industry pain points such as carbon dioxide emission ratios, the demand for renewable energy transition, the problem of 2.3 billion tons of copper tailings, and biodiversity destruction. At the technical level, he systematically sorted out existing rock pretreatment technologies such as blasting and hydraulic fracturing, interpreted the advantages of supercritical CO₂ fracturing fluid and its carbon sequestration potential combined with the CO₂ phase diagram, introduced the characteristics of foam stimulation technology in terms of high sand carrying and low pollution, and also introduced slow-release energy material agents (SREMA) and their applications in the field of copper leaching.
During the interactive session, Professor P.G. Ranjith had an in-depth exchange with faculty and students on the technical difficulties of mineral extraction. Through the logical chain of "pain point analysis-technological innovation-practical application", this report presented a panorama of green mining of mineral resources for faculty and students. The faculty and students of the school have said that the report not only deepened their understanding of cutting-edge technologies but also inspired their sense of responsibility to promote the sustainable development of the industry through scientific and technological innovation.
